ChronicleWatch: Working for a better Bay Area
Pedestrians are supposed to have the right of way, but what about pedestrian-crossing signs? Reader Tom Torriglia of San Francisco points out that a directional sign to Lake Merced Boulevard in San Francisco is blocked by a sign for a pedestrian crossing. He told ChronicleWatch that the obscured sign makes it easy for motorists on Skyline Boulevard to miss the turn to the popular lake.
Status: ChronicleWatch contacted Caltrans spokeswoman Gidget Navarro, who said the agency plans to move the directional sign within two weeks. Its new home will be 100 to 200 feet south, once workers check to ensure there are no underground utilities at the new spot.
